What has happened to
The original (1.0) began life over 12 years ago as a database for the many Zimbabweans and other Africans living abroad. It was a way for all of us to keep in contact with our friends and family scattered around the globe.

I designed and built it long before the likes of Facebook were even thought of and am very proud of the fact that we had an active base of over 20 000 members.

Now that the new global social networking sites like Facebook are here with their many millions of members including most of the Zimbabweans who were on, our database became much less important to the Zimbabwean community than it once was. On top of this I felt that it was pointless having your details duplicated on more than one website and so have decided to stop running as a contacts database.

So is now dead?
Not on your ‘nelly’, It is just because of this, I now feel the time is right for to move into a new and exciting direction. The ethos behind has always been to focus on the many positive and beautiful things to come out of Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole, staying well clear of politics and all the problems associated with it. Not that I felt that it is not important, it was just that there are plenty of other websites devoted to this and so felt what was the point of duplicating what is already there. What is harder to find are good news stories on Zim, all the good people and what is great about our country that makes it so special. This is what has focused on in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

What is Next for
At the moment I am busy converting all the old pages to work on the new site. As you can imagine, with over 12 years of work, this is not a small task and so what I aim to do is add it slowly over time, with the most popular pages and sections to be added first.

Would you like to Write for
The idea is to turn Chirundu into a giant resource on everything we love about Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, it’s people, places, wildlife, food and anything else that you can think of. This is where you come in, if you would like to have your articles published on this website, I would love to hear from you.

You can write about about anything to do with Zimbabwe, without being overly negative, abusive or hurtful. Do you have an old favourite African recipe that you’d like to share, or do you run a Zimbabwean business, either still in Zim or overseas and would like to write about it? How about some old memories and photos that you’d like to share. Or how about writing about some of our unique and interesting history?

The choice is yours, articles will be fully attributed to the author with a link to you website, so long as the article is not just one long advert, it will be fine.
